Pacific tropical storm forms; Bret off Bahamas

MIAMI (AP) - Tropical Storm Dora has formed in the Pacific off southern Mexico on a track forecast to keep it out to sea.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm was centered Monday about 400 miles (645 kilometers) south-southeast of Salina Cruz, Mexico, and moving west at 12 mph (19 kph) with top sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph). It could become a hurricane by Wednesday.

In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Bret was moving slowly north-northeast from the Bahamas and forecast to stay away from the U.S. East Coast.

Bret's maximum sustained winds were 50 mph (85 kph). Its center was about 100 miles (160 kilometres) north of Great Abaco Island. Authorities issued a tropical storm warning Monday for Grand Bahama and the Abaco Islands.
