Funeral set for woman killed by man driving the wrong way

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Funeral arrangements have been set for a 72-year-old woman who died when a man driving the wrong way crashed into her car.

Funeral services for Eleanor "Ellie" Martin Caperton of Ladson have been set for Saturday at noon at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Caperton was a bank teller at First Citizens Bank in Hanahan and a security guard for U.S. Security Associates.

Authorities charged 19-year-old Samuel McCauley with reckless homicide and felony drunk driving in the Sunday incident.

According to investigators, McCauley's car was going the wrong way on I-26 near downtown when he crashed into Caperton's Honda Civic.

Both drivers were transported to MUSC for multiple injuries. Police say Caperton died at the hospital as a result of her injuries. McCauley was released from the hospital on Tuesday and locked up at the Charleston County jail.
