WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police have arrested two men allegedly involved in an attempted armed robbery in the Avondale area of West Ashley on Friday morning.
Police charged two men with attempted armed robbery after a victim reported that three men approached his car with guns and tried to rob him around 1:30 a.m. Officers are still looking for the third suspect.
The victim told police that he walked back to his truck after leaving a bar. While sitting in his truck, three males wearing all black approached his window. One man wearing a red mask pointed a gun directly at him while another man wearing a green mask pointed a gun in the air as the third suspect stood behind the other two men.
The victim old police that the men were screaming at him, but he couldn't understand them because they had masks on and his window were up with music playing. The victim quickly put the truck in reverse and sped off.
After the victim called 9-1-1, the suspects were seen running across Savannah Highway from Daniel Street. Officers detained the suspects after a short foot pursuit at a store on Savannah Highway. The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Joseph Jerome Jenkins and 19-year-old Robert Lee Coaxum.
A red clown-type mask was found several feet away from Jenkins and a black BB gun was found several feet from Coaxum in the area that they were arrested.
Both men were charged with attempted armed robbery and were transported to Charleston County Detention Center.
