SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Officials are asking residents to avoid contact with a number of creeks in Summerville following a sanitary sewer overflow Friday afternoon.
Authorities say the overflow happened at 145 Burton Ave. in the Oakbrook area.The overflow was released from a broken force main south of the bridge on Burton Avenue.
The runoff from the spill entered Chandler Bridge Creek near the Bridges of Summerville. Officials say Chandler Bridge Creek, Eagle Creek and possibly portions of Ashley River will be affected by the spill.
Area residents should avoid any contact with the water in those areas.
DHEC and DNR have been notified of the spill.
