Bond denied for man suspected of kidnapping woman at gunpoint

ORANGEBURG, SC (WCSC) - Bond was denied for a 47-year-old man who authorities say they caught after the victim escaped from a car trunk and called authorities.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office charged Anthony McClain of Saint Mattews with kidnapping and armed robbery.

According to Sheriff Leroy Ravenell, the victim was walking down Belleville Road when she was approached at gunpoint by McClain. An incident report states that McClain told her if she screamed he would kill and then forced the victim into the car.

"McClain stopped at a gas station on Highway 601, forced the victim to give him her money and then made her get into the trunk of his car," says Sheriff Ravenell."The victim was able to get away in Calhoun County and contacted the Sheriff's Office. Calhoun County Deputies arrested McClain while walking."

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation of criminal sexual conduct charges.
