Children of murder-suicide victim receive $5,000 check

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Six children who lost their parents in a murder-suicide last January were presented with a $5,000 check in Summerville on Tuesday.

The check presentation was held at 3 p.m. at the Crab Shack on Dorchester Road, where their mother Tina Hughes worked as a waitress.

Hughes, 37, was shot and killed by her husband, 44-year-old Randy Hughes, at their home in Walterboro on January 4.  Colleton County sheriff's deputies said the couple had planned on separating.

All 3 of the Charleston-area Crab Shacks and many of their customers pitched in to raise money for the children.

A bank account called 'The Hughes Kids Fun' has also been set up at the Enterprise Bank at 776 Bells Highway in Walterboro.  Donations can be sent to the bank.
