Grand jury charges man for importing cocaine from Panama

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Charleston grand jury charged a Connecticut man for importing over 500 grams of cocaine from Panama.

United States Attorney Bill Nettles said that Oscar Baptiste of East Hartford was charged in the indictment.

Baptiste, originally from Panama, is a legal permanent resident of the United States. The maximum penalty Baptiste could receive is imprisonment for 40 years and/or a fine of $5,000,000.

The case was investigated by agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nick Bianchi of the Charleston office.
