SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Neighborhoods in Summerville have been cleaning up the mess left by storms that hit Tuesday night.
Pictures sent in by viewers showed plenty of trees and power lines knocked down. Neighbors and tree cutters worked together on Wednesday to get the mess cleaned up.
"It got dark all of a sudden, wind picked up, lightning and in about two minutes it went from nothing to about 60 mph," said Leif Grytebust.
Grytebust set the scene as he waited for tree cutters to chop up the mass of leaves and branches dividing his backyard.
"We lost two trees, one in the front and one in the back in probably less than a minute," said Grytebust.
Storms with straight line winds blew down trees and power lines, cut out electricity and damaged several homes. Judson Connell says he knew it was going to be a busy day when he heard the storms roll through.
"A lot of blow overs, trees on houses, trees on fences, a lot of yard clean up," said Connell.
Connell says his tree cutting business started getting calls Tuesday night and cleaning up the mess was no easy task.
"If we get any more storm damage calls of course that will be priority. Other than that we'll go back to our typical routine," Connell says.
SCE&G reported over 5,000 homes without power for most of the night. All electricity was restored Wednesday morning.
