Duo wanted for theft, credit card fraud in Summerville

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Police in Summerville and Charleston are looking for a man and a woman who allegedly conspired to steal bank cards from a woman in a parking lot over the weekend.

Authorities say 26-year-old Michael Triaman Jackson and 36-year-old Demetrice Peterson are the two suspects captured on surveillance video.

Investigators with the Summerville Police Department and said the incident happened at the Lowe's parking lot on North Main Street on Saturday.

Police say that the victim had just finished shopping and was loading her vehicle trunk with her purchases when she was approached by Jackson, who asked her for directions to the Knightsville area.  The victim said that she ignored Jackson, but was then approached by Peterson, who also asked her a question.

Police said the victim thinks that while she was talking to the Peterson, Jackson went into her vehicle and stole her purse.

Detectives said the suspects target older women, asking for directions to distract them and then steal their purses.

Police said the stolen cards are being used to get gift cards at stores.

Surveillance from a nearby CVS shows Jackson using the stolen bank cards. Police said  Peterson is also present in the video.

The victim suffered a total loss of $1780, police say.

Investigators said Jackson and Peterson may be connected to other cases in the Tri County area.

Both suspects were arrested by Mt. Pleasant Police back on June 22 for a similar crime, but they posted bond.
