NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - North Charleston wants students who live in the city to know it's cool to be in school.
The city, businesses and local churches are sponsoring the fourth annual "It's Cool to be in School" event on Saturday at the North Charleston Coliseum.
Needy students accompanied by a parent will be able to receive free school supplies.
The program is designed to ensure that students from the city are in class on the first day of school, which in Charleston County is Tuesday.
Last year, more than 1,000 students participated in the program.
