NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (AP) - Boeing has extended the deadline for people to apply online for jobs at its North Charleston plant because more than 500 people tried to file in the first 2.5 hours, overwhelming the site.
According to media reports, the ReadySC website said early Saturday that the deadline will be extended until at least Sunday. Boeing had planned to shut down the site after receiving 3,000 listings.
By Saturday morning, 1,500 people had applied. ReadySCspokeswoman Lauren Hanson says the website will be open the rest of the weekend even if that means more than 3,000 applications are received.
Boeing spokeswoman Candy Eslinger said by text message that the company was encouraged by the interest in jobs.
The first South Carolina-made 787 is scheduled for delivery next year.
