CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP/WCSC) - Charleston is marking the opening of another school year with its 9th annual First Day Festival.
The Sunday event is held from 1p.m. to 4p.m. at the South Carolina Aquarium, Liberty Square and the city's Maritime Center. This event features education exhibits, school supplies, cooking demonstrations, entertainment and free boat rides.
One focus of the festival is making sure students eat healthy foods and chefs will demonstrate healthy cooking.
Mayor Joe Riley says the festival is an important way for the community to show students it supports them as they start another school year. The first day of school for Charleston County students is Tuesday.
