Two male boaters are back with their families Wednesday morning after their boat got stuck at Mosquito Creek Canal. The Coast Guard says the men are in stable condition.
According to the Coast Guard, the boaters departed from South Island Ferry Landing on Tuesday to go fishing. The Coast Guard received a call around 9 p.m. that said the two men never returned from their trip.
Coast Guard officials spotted the two boaters with their boat in the marsh of Mosquito Creek Canal, which is just south of Georgetown. A helo unit was called to assess their conditions.
Coast Guard officials say they believe the boaters were in a channel that was no longer navigable and they got stuck in the marsh.
The helo unit flew them to off the island to Georgetown Executive Airport, where their families and EMS units met them. They are expected to be OK.
Georgetown County EMS, Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources all assisted in the rescue.
