Charleston County sheriff's office moving closer to jail

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office is moving closer to the county jail.

A unanimous vote by the Charleston County Council at Tuesday night's meeting approved the purchase of the SCE&G building on Leeds Avenue. Right now, the sheriff's office is on Pinehaven Avenue.

The move will take the sheriff's office about three miles down the road and put officials a half mile from the Charleston County Detention Center.

The county will purchase the building and make renovations using tax dollars. SCE&G is moving its offices to Aviation Avenue.
