Man dies after being hit by car on Johns Island

JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

A man was pronounced dead after being struck by a car Wednesday night on Johns Island.

The coroner's office says 39-year-old Donald Wine from Johns Island died from blunt force trauma.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office responded to an auto vs. pedestrian accident that happened on River Road near Starfish Drive on Johns Island. According to investigators, a Chevy pick-up truck was traveling towards Betsy Kerrison Parkway on River Road, when the driver passed a slower vehicle.

An incident report states that when the driver attempted to return to the proper lane, the truck struck the pedestrian who was walking in the roadway.

The sheriff's office says the pedestrian was wearing dark colored clothing. Wine was taken to MUSC with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.

No charges are pending at this time.
