PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – There's a young entrepreneur in Pender County trying to make enough money to pay for her own back-to-school clothes.
Paytan Giddings is 9 years old, but she's been in business since she was 6 selling watermelons in front of her grandma's barber shop for $3 a melon.
"She is learning to work her way through life rather instead of expecting others to take care of her," said Betty Creech, a loyal customer.
Paytan said she's raising the money because she wants to save her parents the trouble.
"They do so much for me, and I just want to do it in return," explained Paytan.
The young businesswoman gets her product from her grandparent's farm. She only works for about a month but says she turns a decent profit.
