CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Mayor Joe Riley announced on Thursday that former Charleston city attorney William Bennett Regan died early this morning.
Regan served as the City of Charleston's Corporation Counsel from Dec. 15, 1975 until Jan. 14, 2003.
"Not only was Bill Regan's service tenure unprecedented in its length as he served longer than any lawyer had served as the City of Charleston's Corporation Counsel his service was also distinguished by the quality of his legal advice in representation of the City in a host of important and complex matters," Mayor Riley said."Every important initiative that occurred during these 27 years had Bill Regan's imprint on it."
Mayor Riley said in honor of Regan's service to the city, all flags on city buildings will be flown at half-staff.
