ISLE OF PALMS, SC (WCSC) -

Despite the wind and heavy rains, Isle of Palms was a popular spot for visitors Friday afternoon. Several parking spaces along the main strip on Ocean Boulevard were taken as many people came out to the beach.

Some were checking out the surf, others enjoying the water and surfing.

A big party of ten were visiting the area from New York City celebrating a bachelor and bachelorette party weekend. They did not let the wet weather ruin the trip.

They were out on the IOP strip enjoying the restaurants and bars and checking out the beach.

"We're excited. It's not dampening. It's making it more exciting. It's an adventure," said Ben Smith.

"We have a lot of board games and Pictionary. We plan on making the best of it and having fun," Talia Degenarro said.

Meanwhile, the wind and rain were also a welcome sight to surfers. Surfers say they typically don't come out here to IOP for the waves, but they were excited to try out some of the swells.

"It was good this morning. We got up at 7 a.m. It's kind of gotten a little crazy now so were packing up," Ryan Jones said.
