DeMint discusses Congress, nation's economic ills during visit

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (AP/WCSC) - South Carolina U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint discussed Congress and how it will deal with the nation's economic problems during a visit to the Lowcountry on Tuesday.

DeMint visited North Charleston on Tuesday to speak to a quarterly meeting of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. He spoke about the economy, creating jobs and his time in office. He also talked about what folks in Charleston need to focus on to make our economy stronger.

"We've got a growing diverse economy here, lots of different companies moving in of course we've got an aviation hub, a technology hub we're trading stocks here in Charleston," said DeMint."And there's so much that's happening here that's pretty exciting, so we need to just keep making it better and better."

DeMint also said he expects to see more businesses coming to South Carolina since we are a right to work state.

He said earlier this month that the debt ceiling deal Congress approved has cost America its credibility and was only a political solution to delay dealing with the problem.

DeMint says the only real solution to the debt crisis is the Cut, Cap and Balance proposal that President Obama rejected.
