CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Tropical Storm Katia is just below hurricane strength over the eastern Atlantic. The long range forecast still brings the storm to a Category 3 major hurricane over the weekend as it moves north of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
Right now, the storm is expected to re curve out to sea, but there is still a lot of uncertainty in the final track into next week. Also, the latest forecast models show a storm developing in the Gulf of Mexico this weekend that may cross Florida and move up the Georgia and South Carolina coast into next week.
There is great uncertainty in that storm's path as well, but it bears watching. More models indicate two more storms developing in the Atlantic later next week as the hurricane season enters the peak season.
