125th anniversary of largest earthquake to hit Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Lowcountry was rattled by one of the largest earthquakes in the southeast on record 125 years ago today.

It damaged and destroyed many buildings in the Holy City and killed 60 people. The quake was a 7.3 magnitude.

In today's dollars and cents, the earthquake of1886 caused more than 200 billion dollars in total economic loss in Charleston.
