CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A deputy who was shot two years ago in the line of duty was honored by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
Deputy Alan Ali was awarded with the U.S. Marshals Service Purple Heart Award at the U.S. Federal Courthouse on Thursday.
Ali was shot in 2009 while attempting to capture a fugitive in West Ashley. Police say 30-year-old Terrell Mallard shot Ali after Mallard was tracked to a home on Tomoka Drive.
The U.S. Marshals Service Director Stacia Hylton, U.S. Marshal Kelvin Washington and the Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon attended the event.
