Correctional officer terminated, accused of sexual misconduct with inmate

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A former Charleston County correctional officer was fired from his job after facing sexual misconduct charges.

According to authorities Brown had sexual relations with an inmate.

SLED agents arrested Samuel Lamar Brown of North Charleston on Tuesday. Brown was also charged with official misconduct of a police officer and locked up at the Charleston County Detention Center. 

Authorities say the arrest is a result of an investigation by SLED at the request of the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. According to an affidavit, Brown had sex with an inmate at the detention center in June.

Brown was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond on each count.  Authorities say Brown was hired in January 2009.

Investigators say that Brown provided a voluntary statement confessing to the incident.  Brown is currently on administrative leave without pay, pending an internal investigation.
