Police: Teen dislocated teacher's jaw, broke facial bones

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 14-year-old student at Liberty Hill Academy was arrested two weeks ago after he allegedly pummeled a teacher, causing serious injury.

North Charleston police responded to the school located on Enterprise Street on August 24 at 2 p.m.  According to the incident report, the teacher told the teen to leave the classroom because he was being unruly with a teacher's assistant.

The teacher, who police said was "visibly distressed, crying, and shaking" upon their arrival, said that the 14-year-old walked up to her and punched her in the face at least five times.

Witnesses said they heard the juvenile direct several expletives at the teacher while he was being escorted from the classroom.

Charleston County EMS responders treated the teacher for a broken finger, fractured facial bones, and a dislocated jawbone.

The student was taken into custody and charged with 2nd degree assault and battery.
