Wanted man nabbed after police surround West Ashley home

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Tense moments Wednesday morning outside a West Ashley duplex after a man barricades himself and threatens to take his own life.

It happened on Memminger Avenue near Sam Rittenberg Boulevard across from the Village Square shopping center.

Cops say the whole thing started when the suspect violated a trespass order and ended around 11 a.m. when 24-year-old Marco Aguinaga walked out of the apartment and gave up.

Police say Aguinaga was not armed when he surrendered to Charleston police officers and Charleston County sheriff's deputies.

According to investigators, Aguinaga violated a trespass order by going to his wife's place of work. When cops went to question him, they say the suspect locked himself inside and threatened to hurt himself.

Negotiators convinced Aguinaga to come out about an hour later. The sheriff's office has charged him criminal domestic violence. Charleston police plan to charge Aguinaga with trespassing and second-degree burglary.

Aguinaga is also a suspect in a copper theft.
