Wofford student from Charleston dies

SPARTANBURG, SC (WCSC) - A 20-year-old Wofford College student and tennis player from Charleston died early Saturday morning.

The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office is investigating the death of Randall George Heffron Jr. of Charleston.  According to reports by WSPA-TV, Heffro was rushed to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center by EMS after he was found having difficulty breathing  in a dormitory bathroom by several friends.

Heffron, a Bishop England graduate, was pronounced dead at 1:11 am Saturday. The cause of death is pending toxicology and autopsy results.

President Benjamin B. Dunlap provide WSPA-TV with the following statement:

"The Wofford campus family is saddened by this tragic and untimely death.  Randall was well-loved and respected by his fellow tennis players, his friends and classmates.  He will be greatly missed.  Our deepest sympathies are with his family, especially his brother, Walker Heffron, a freshman here at Wofford."

Randall's brother, Walker Heffron, also is a member of the tennis team.

 "Our thoughts, prayers and concerns are with Randall's mother, brother, family, and the Wofford men's tennis team led by Coach Rod Ray," Director of Athletics Richard Johnson said.
