Witnesses follow larceny suspects until cops arrive to make arrests

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Three people were arrested Friday morning after two good Samaritans witnessed the alleged theft of an AC unit and followed the suspects until police arrived.

According to a North Charleston police report, a witness to a larceny called police and told the dispatch officer that he saw multiple individuals in a red and silver truck steal a large AC unit from a business on Rivers Avenue.

Two witnesses followed the suspects to B&D Scrap Metal on Stokes Road, leading responding police units to the scene.

A male suspect was seen pushing the AC unit out of the rear of the truck while the other two suspects waited in the truck, a police report states. The suspects were detained after police officers arrived on scene. The witnesses confirmed to investigators that all three suspects were at the scene of the larceny.

Police arrested 32-year-old Lee Ann Powers, of Summerville, 39-year-old Harry Rudell, of Moncks Corner, and 41-year-old Belinda Weaver, of Lincolnville.

All three are charged with property crime enhancement and possession of burglary tools.

The AC unit recovered is valued at $10,000.
