Proposed wine and beer law passes first reading in Summerville

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The Summerville Town Council passed the first reading of a proposed law Wednesday night that would allow residents to drink wine or beer in publicly-owned places during special events like a wedding or concert in the park..

Permits would be granted as exemptions to a town law prohibiting possession of an open container of alcohol in public places.

A final reading is expected sometime in October at the next public hearing at the Summerville municipal complex.
