CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities are looking for a man who reportedly kidnapped a taxi cab driver in Charleston before locking him in the trunk and finally letting him out in Garden City, just outside of Savannah.
Charleston Police Department spokesman Charles Francis said Wednesday that a dark-skinned black male, approximately 5'10" in height and weighing about 180 pounds, commandeered a green Safety Cab taxi last Wednesday when the driver arrived to pick him up near Jackson Street.
The cab driver told Garden City Police Department officers that the man let him out of the trunk at a Food Lion. The driver then walked to the Master's Inn off Georgia Highway 21 and called police.
Charleston police say the suspect, who is also described as a clean-shaven man with a short haircut appearing to be in his 20s, was also involved with an armed robbery and auto theft that happened a short time later at a Charleston cemetery.
Francis said the suspect, who was wearing a black shirt during the carjacking, abandoned the taxi in Savannah.
