Report: Suspected drug dealer attacks deputies during traffic stop

LADSON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office arrested a suspected drug dealer after they say he attacked deputies during a traffic stop Friday in Ladson.

Authorities charged Marquise F. Brown of Goose Creek with assault with resisting arrest, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and simple possession marijuana.

At 7:33 p.m. Friday, deputies stopped a 2007 Buick LaCrosse at the intersection of Midview Drive and Hardwood Street in Woodside Manor for a window tint violation. An incident report states that an odor of marijuana was emanating from the vehicle and Brown was asked to exit the vehicle.

Authorities say subsequent to a consent search, a small baggie of marijuana was found on Brown. According to investigators, as deputies attempted to place Brown under arrest, he fled on foot, fought with deputies and continued to resist arrest.

A K-9 unit was released to assist in detaining Brown who was in a ditch along with a deputy. The K-9 initially bit the leg of the deputy causing a puncture wound to the deputy's calf.

The K-9 then apprehended Brown who had gotten out of the ditch and was fighting with another deputy. That deputy sustained injuries during the fight. Brown received bites to his arm and chest.

A background check also revealed that Brown had an outstanding warrant through the Goose Creek Police Department.
