Woman sentenced to 23 years for fatally stabbing boyfriend

RIDGELAND, (WCSC) - A 22-year-old Ridgeland woman was sentenced to 23 years in prison Wednesday for the fatal New Year's Eve stabbing of her boyfriend.

After a two-day trial, Tara Marie Weber was found guilty of one count of voluntary manslaughter for killing 24-year-old Kyle Mitchell Way during an argument at the couple's Lowther Lane home.

During the argument, investigators say Weber picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Way one time in the upper chest. He died en route to the hospital.

There was a history of domestic violence between the two.

"This was a sad case that illustrates the escalating nature of domestic violence," said assistant solicitor Robbie Ferguson, prosecutor of the case. "If victims don't leave volatile relationships, bad things can -- and more often than not -- will happen. In this case, a young man who had shown some promise is dead, a young woman will spend much of her life in prison and two children are without parents."
