Colleton Co. man who killed wife gets 30 years

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A 52-year-old Lodge man was sentenced to 30 years in jail Thursday for shooting and killing his wife in July, 2010.

Eli Meyers pleaded guilty Thursday to murder and possession of a weapon during commission of a violent crime. He pleaded guilty to shooting and killing 57-year-old Rose Meyers, his wife of more than 20 years.

On July 25, 2010, Meyers shot his wife in the head with a large-caliber hunting rifle. He then attempted to commit suicide by shooting himself under his chin with a .380-caliber handgun, but survived.

In his 9-1-1 call, Meyers admitted to shooting his wife. He was found clutching a cordless phone in the foyer of the couple's Homestead Road home and was taken to the hospital.

The case was prosecuted by assistant solicitor Robbie Ferguson of the Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor's Office.

Judge Thomas Cooper handed down the sentence.
