Cops: Mom suffocated newborn twins

HENDERSONVILLE, TN (WKRN/CNN) – A woman was arrested this week after police say she murdered her newborn twins because she did not want anyone to know she was pregnant.

In a police affidavit, officers say Lindsey Lowe confessed that she knowingly and intentionally killed each of her children. She used her bare hands to stop them from breathing until they were dead in order to prevent her parents from discovering she had been pregnant.

"We received a call from Miss Lowe's father, and he reported to us that he had discovered a decreased child in his daughter's bedroom," said Lt. Scott Ryan.

In the affidavit, police said Lowe confessed she placed the newborns in a laundry basket in her room and covered them with blankets to prevent their discovery.

Lowe is being held in the Sumter County jail awaiting a bond hearing.

"In the time I have been with Hendersonville - 17 years now - this is the only time I have seen a crime such as this," Ryan said.

Police say Lowe does not have a criminal history and as of now, they do not know who the father of her babies is.
