Infant safe after mother shot, left on road to die

GREENWOOD, SC (AP) - Authorities say a 2-month-old girl taken after her mother was shot and left to die on a South Carolina roadway is safe, and a suspect has been arrested.

Greenwood Police Chief Gerald Brooks says the mother was shot inside and outside of her car about 4 p.m. Monday and the infant was driven away in a car. The mother was identified as Kaybreshia Timpson.

An Amber Alert issued for Nariyaz Neal was canceled hours later after the suspect turned himself at a store about 10 miles away in Hodges.

Police have not yet released information on the suspect.
