AIKEN, SC (WCSC) - The driver accused of causing a deadly car accident that killed two Charleston students pled guilty to driving under the influence Wednesday.

Stephen Corley pled guilty to two felony counts of DUI resulting in death Wednesday. He was sentenced to two 22-year sentences to be served consecutively. He will serve a total of 44 years in prison and will not be eligible for parole until 85 percent of the jail time is served.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested Corley in connection with the fatal crash on Dec. 29 in Aiken County.

Alex Bush and Katie Scott were home for the holidays when they were killed in the accident. Bush was a student at the Charleston School of Law and Scott attended the College of Charleston.

Witnesses say Corley was speeding and trying to pass people when he crossed over the center line and hit the couple head on.
