Go rip and run: Charleston observes Day of Play

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Charleston wants local children to go outside and get some exercise.

The eighth annual Worldwide Day of Play is scheduled for Saturday. The event urges children to get up, go out and play, and Charleston is holding a number of events to let youngsters of all ages participate.

The events include a group walk across the Ravenel Bridge linking Charleston and Mount Pleasant, a children's fishing festival at Colonial Lake and games at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry.

The Day of Play was first proclaimed by the Nickelodeon television network.
