MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Fifth graders at Belle Hall Elementary are learning lessons about students with disabilities.

Students experienced the challenges and frustrations a disabled child may have with tasks they take for granted. The program is designed to promote tolerance and acceptances with children with special needs.

The program includes having students wear garden gloves while trying to tie a shoe to simulate an orthopedic disability or completing a worksheet while many distractions similar to a person with a learning disability.

Program director Christy Crawford says this is the fourth year Belle Hall has done the Disability Awareness Program.
