Charleston County puts plastic bag ban on hold

The paper or plastic debate in Charleston County is on hold for another month.

If you live in the county, you will still be allowed to use plastic bags for yard debris for another 30 days.

Charleston County council members want the next month to figure out the cost of other options like paper bags, or vehicles that can pick up loose piles.

The county wants to compost your yard waste to keep it out of landfills. Right now, all the plastic bags need to be manually removed before leaves and grass can be ground up.
