School bus evacuated on Westmoreland Bridge because of smoke

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities responded to reports of smoke coming from a Charleston County school bus Thursday morning on the Westmoreland Bridge.

All lanes on Interstate 526 have been reopened after smoke was seen coming from a school bus on the North Charleston side of the Westmoreland Bridge happened around 7:30 a.m.

According to North Charleston police, the bus driver noticed smoke coming from the engine and pulled over. The North Charleston Fire Department responded to the scene, but there was no fire.

No injuries were reported and all the students have been moved off thebus and are OK. Another school bus was sent to the location to transport the students to school.

The bus was on its way to Garret Academy with 38 students on board.
