GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Parents and students at Cane Bay High School can rest assured that their voices have been heard as the Berkeley County Transportation Committee recently approved the funding to install a traffic light at the corner of Highway 176 and Cane Bay Boulevard.
Fatal wrecks have been quite common in the area and officials hope installing the light will help slow traffic and improve safety in the area.
A 33-year-old man was killed this year in April while trying to turn into the school and a month earlier, 17-year-old student Ronnie Gallardo was struck by a car and killed on Highway 176 near Alexander Circle.
Several other wrecks have also occurred at the intersection of the school.
Berkeley County officials are now working with SCDOT to determine how and when the light will be implemented.
