Police ID man wanted for using axe to break into Gilligan's

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -

Police have identified a man wanted for using an axe to break into Gilligan's Restaurant on Ladson Road last month.

The Summerville Police Department is looking for 26-year-old Justin Robert Murray on second-degree burglary charges.

Officers with the Summerville Police Department responded to the restaurant in the 3800 block of Ladson Road at 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 29.  Upon arrival, police found an axe lying near a shattered window by the front door.

According to the incident report, surveillance video from the scene shows a "younger white male subject, wearing dark shorts and a dark t-shirt, with sandy blonde or brown hair."

The video shows the man break the window with the axe before he walks to the bar area and opens a cash drawer before taking a bottle of liquor from the bar.

The video also shows that the man was wearing black gloves. Police say the burglar was in the restaurant for about a minute and a half before he left through the axe-smashed window.  Police said the axe found at the scene had a bright yellow handle.

Police on the scene also noticed that the suspect had broken into the cash register in the to-go area. A manager told police no cash was left in either register, so the burglar apparently only made away with the bottle of liquor.

If you have any information regarding this crime, call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
