Woman killed in wreck with 18-wheeler on Ashley Phospate identified

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - One person was killed Friday morning after an 18-wheeler and a car were involved in an accident on Ashley Phosphate Road at Dorchester Road.

The Dorchester County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 29-year-old Tamara Shovonne Steward of North Charleston.

Authorities say Steward Was making a left turn from a strip mall on Ashley Phosphate Road when she pulled into the path of an 18-wheeler and was struck in the driver's side door. The truck struck the vehicle and the car landed in a ditch.

The cause of the death is listed as blunt force trauma.

Dorchester County EMS arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
