Power restored in Mt. Pleasant after DUI, wreck cause outage

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Police arrested a 19-year-old man Monday night for DUI after a car crash caused a power outage in Mt. Pleasant.

Mt. Pleasant police responded to an accident on Hobcaw Drive involving one car, which had crashed into a utility pole. Police found 19-year-old Peter Michael Loy standing next to his Ford SUV.

According to police, Loy said he swerved to miss an oncoming car and ended up hitting the utility pole. After interviewing several witnesses, police could not confirm that another car was involved and as a result, the responding officer charged Loy with DUI.

Power was knocked out to almost 500 people because of the accident overnight. According to SCE&G, 442 were without power, but as of 8:30 a.m., power had been restored.
