WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - A teenager was flown to the hospital Monday after a high speed chase with Walterboro police.
According to Walterboro police, an officer on patrol at 5:45 p.m. observed a red Mustang with expired tags driving on Bells Highway. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the Mustang refused to stop.
A high speed chase ensued and according to the officer, the Mustang reached speeds of more than 120 mph and proceeded onto Mt. Carmel Road.
The officer witnessed the Mustang pass several cars on a solid double yellow line before crashing into a hay field.
The 16-year-old female driver was ejected from the car and landed in a hayfield. She was flown by helicopter to MUSC. The driver's condition is unknown at this time.
Walterboro police say the driver faces charges of failure to stop for blue lights, no driver's license and operating an uninsured vehicle.
