CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A new webpage for residents of Charleston to search accident reports and view slideshows of missing persons and most wanted fugitives is now online.
Charles Francis, public information officer for the City of Charleston Police Department, said the webpage is for residents to obtain police records without having to come downtown.
"We're making it convenient for citizens to get information, making it easier for them" said Francis.
Residents will be able to print a copy of accident reports and search where incidents happened. When looking for an accident report or incident, the first thing you'll want to do, is click on the search for events icon, or get a crash report in the middle of the page. Then follow the instructions and fill in all the required fields. Then click search and all the information you need will pop up. If you want to view an incident report, you'll still need to come to Police Headquarters to get a copy of the incident, as it contains personal information.
The webpage is called Police to Citizen or P2C for short. It provides access to police records from the last month all free of charge.
Charleston residents, like Victoria Jennings, says the new webpage is great.
"I think it's an excellent idea, for missing persons," said Jennings.
Other features include access to the community calendar and event searches within the Charleston Police Department's jurisdiction. But the best feature, folks can now print police reports from their own computer.
"A lot of folks work during the day and they can't make it down to the police department to get copies of accident reports," said Francis.
Other residents think the new webpage will save a lot of time and problems.
The webpage originally launched on Sept.1.
There are still some additional things the police department would like to add to the site. Another interesting thing about the program, you can send emails informing law enforcement of anything that may seem out of the ordinary in your neighborhood.
