WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - Authorities arrested three people Wednesday in connection with a shooting which injured a man in the Druid Hills neighborhood.
Walterboro Public Safety officials say the shooting happened during the evening at 189 Beach Road. The victim, who was shot in his left leg, told police he didn't know where the shots came from.
Police said other witnesses at the scene were able to provide a detailed description of the vehicle, which was found a short time later at the corner of Hendersonville Highway and Bomar Lane. Three suspects were arrested in a traffic stop after officers found a gun inside their vehicle.
The suspects, all Walterboro residents, are: 32-year-old Tyson Bomar, 20-year-old Johnny Wiggins, and 24-year-old Felicia Smalls.
Bomar and Wiggins are charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault and battery, possession of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime, and unlawful carrying of a pistol. Smalls is charged with accessory before the fact of a felony and unlawful carrying of a pistol.
All three suspects are being held in the Colleton County Detention Center.
The victim was taken to Colleton Medical Center for treatment.
Mayor Bill Young released a statement Thursday, saying, "The arrests made by the City of Walterboro's Public Safety Officers were the direct result of our collaborative effort to stop crime in its tracks. With the help of citizens such as those who gave a detailed account of what, when and who they saw, we were able to make a swift arrest of three individuals on a myriad of charges. This town is just saying no to criminals, and we remain vigilant in our efforts to be sure they know there is no place for these unlawful acts in our town."
