Finally we're getting some relief from the hot, humid temperatures. But if you have trees in your yard, they may still be paying the price.
The experts at Angie's List say proper care for trees is important. The trees around your home are an investment and need proper care. Well-maintained trees can add up to 15 percent of the value of your home because they increase curb appeal.
"The hot summer weather can be hard on your trees. You might see signs of stress because the leaves are scorched or wilted, or fallen already," says Angie Hicks of Angie's List. "Talk to an arborist for suggestions for exactly how much water your tree should have and other things you can do to help bring it back around."
Angie's List recommends you have your trees inspected by an arborist every couple of years. A professional can tell you what a healthy tree is supposed to look like, and alert you to problems.
Michael Webster is a certified arborist. "Well for general inspections what we will do is send out a certified arborist to go out and look at the tree and they look for branch defects and dead limbs. We try to look for problems down at the base of the tree. There is supposed to be a nice root flare and sometimes with planting trees, they might be inadvertently too deep in the soil or just girdling roots."
Webster says regular care of your trees should also include pruning, and pest management. For more tips on proper care for trees, check out angieslist.com.
