6 injured after pick-up trucks collide in Colleton County

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A head-on collision involving two pick-up trucks injured six people Sunday afternoon, including a 22-year-old woman who was found unconscious in a ditch.

According to Colleton County fire and rescue officials, the accident occurred just after 4 p.m. Sunday in the 6800 block of Pierce Road, which is south of Pineview Lane. The two pickup trucks, a small Mazda and a full-size Dodge, hit head-on going around a curve.

A 22-year-old woman was found unconscious in a ditch. She was transported by medical helicopter to the trauma center at MUSC.

A male passenger was ejected from the Mazda, while another male victim, who was riding in the bed of the truck, was also thrown from the vehicle. Two other females and a male were also injured.

The driver of the Dodge received non-life threatening injuries. Firefighters and paramedics arrived on scene and found the Mazda in a ditch with heavy damage. The Dodge was several hundred feet down the road.

The other two female patients were transported to Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. The three male victims were treated at the scene. Pierce Road was closed at the accident site for about an hour and reopened to one lane for another hour.

The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash to determine the cause.
