Grandson of former mayor critically injured in Hwy 41 wreck

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

The grandson of former Mt. Pleasant Mayor Harry Hallman is in critical condition Tuesday morning after he was involved in a wreck on Highway 41 in Mt. Pleasant.

The accident happened around 4:15 a.m., near the intersection of Dunes West Boulevard.

According to Mt. Pleasant police, a 1998 GMC was traveling eastbound when the driver went off the roadway and crashed into several trees.

The driver, 24-year-old Brittin Andrew Penninger of Goose Creek, was thrown from the SUV. Penninger is the grandson of former Mt. Pleasant Mayor Harry Hallman.

Penninger was transported to MUSC in critical condition.

Mt. Pleasant police shut the road down for several hours while they investigated and cleared the accident.

Investigators worked in the rain to clear the accident as quickly as possible.
