Women on Charleston based cruise charged with importing drugs

BERMUDA (WCSC) - Two passengers on the Charleston-based Carnival ship Fantasy were arrested in Bermuda last week after they allegedly conspired to import more than $400,000 worth of cannabis resin.

The Royal Gazette in Bermuda is reporting that 23-year-old Alloah Jatan Releford, of Temple, Georgia and 27-year-old Latoya Nicole Powell, of Marietta, Georgia, were charged last Saturday with conspiring with others to import 2.7 kilograms of the resin, which is used to make hashish.

The newspaper said the value of the drugs was estimated to be around $406,550 if sold on the streets of Bermuda.

Reports indicate both suspects will remain in custody on the British island located approximately 640 miles from the North Carolina coast until October 25, when they will appear in court.
